Carbohydrates containing dendrimers in biomedical applications are reviewed to underline their implications in drug and gene deliveries, synthetic vaccines and prevention of pathological processes caused by bacteria and viruses. Two main approaches of glycodendrimer syntheses - convergent and divergent - are described. Since glycopeptide dendrimers suppress lectin-carbohydrate interactions, glycodendrimeric libraries provide potent inhibitors of bacterial adhesion and biofilm formation.
